The Story Behind On The Move Gymnastics.
Meet Kate - Founder & Coach
I’m Kate, the founder of On The Move Gymnastics with a coaching background of competitive gymnastics, advanced tumbling and early years movement development.
My journey began as a competitive Level 8 gymnast before transitioning into coaching at 17, where I was invited to work within the competitive stream at my gymnastics club here on the Gold Coast. Over the following years, I coached athletes through to state title level, developing a deep understanding of technique, skill progression and safe, effective coaching practices.
As my experience grew, I expanded into advanced tumbling and trampolining, gaining exposure to higher-level skills and the precision required to teach and support them. Over the past decade, I’ve worked with thousands of children across multiple disciplines — from athletes striving to achieve first flight skills such as aerials and back handsprings, to young children experiencing their very first jumps, swings and rolls.
On The Move Gymnastics was created to bring these experiences together — combining strong technical coaching with an understanding of early childhood development. The goal is to support children at every stage, from building solid foundations through to helping them break through skills they’ve been working towards, all within a structured, supportive and personalised environment.
Why I Started On The Move Gymnastics …
While I spent most of my childhood immersed in structured, competitive gymnastics, some of my most meaningful memories were actually the simplest.
I remember being outside for hours, creating my own little “gym” in the backyard — practising cartwheels over and over, attempting new tumbles, linking together jumps and movements just to see what I could do. There was no pressure, no expectations just a genuine love for movement and the freedom to explore it in my own way. Those moments were where I felt the most confident, the most capable and the most connected to what my body could do. Gymnastics gave me so much more than physical skills. It gave me confidence, resilience, independence and a strong sense of self and looking back, that was such a special gift to have as a child.
As I moved into coaching, I began to realise how powerful those early experiences with movement really are. Not just in shaping physical ability, but in shaping how children see themselves whether they feel capable, whether they’re willing to try, and whether they enjoy being active. On The Move Gymnastics was created from that understanding. I wanted to create something that combined the structure and guidance of professional coaching with the joy, freedom and confidence that I experienced in those early “backyard” moments. A space where children feel supported, encouraged and proud of themselves whether they’re learning their very first skill or working towards something more advanced.
My goal is for every child who comes through On The Move Gymnastics to walk away not only with stronger skills, but with a sense of confidence, enjoyment and belief in their own ability. Because that’s what stayed with me and that’s what I hope to pass on.
The Impact
Parents often notice changes almost immediately — not just in physical ability, but in the way their child carries themselves. Confidence begins to build, coordination improves and movements that once felt awkward start to become more natural and controlled. Within just a few weeks, many children are not only stronger and more capable, but more willing to try, persist and believe in themselves.
A key difference is the targeted, one-on-one style of coaching within each session. Skills are broken down into achievable steps, allowing children to experience small wins consistently. This removes the overwhelm that often comes with learning new movements and replaces it with clarity, progress and excitement. It’s common for children to finally achieve skills they’ve previously felt “stuck” on — simply because they’re given the time, attention and coaching approach they need to succeed.
Beyond the physical progress, what truly stands out is the connection built with each child. Sessions are designed to create a safe, encouraging environment where children feel supported, seen and proud of their efforts. That trust becomes the foundation for growth — not just as a gymnast, but as a confident individual.
At On The Move Gymnastics, the goal is simple:
to help children build strong bodies, confident minds and a lifelong love of movement.
